Action:

[No no no no no no. No. That's not her mom. That's not her mom, and this isn't the airport, and it's another nightmare, it has to be. What else could it be? It's a dream and it's not her dream and that means she's trapped.]

[Anybody in New Bark will likely catch the sight of a little girl slowly backing away from the house she'd woken up in with wide eyes before breaking into a run and coming to a stop next to some trees to dig through her backpack. Except it's not her own backpack. And the things inside aren't what she wants or needs them to be.]

[Which is a big stressor to a kid who has no idea what to do.]

Audio, later:

Hello? Mr- Parkman? I didn't do anything, I promise.

[Spoken with the urgency of children who want to prove themselves innocent everywhere.]

Please let me out.

[... huh. Well, that definitely sounds like a little girl on the line. Yusuke doesn't have a clue who "Mr. Parkman" is, but hearing the kid's tiny voice asking him to "let her out" is alarming enough that as soon as Yusuke gets her message, he responds, sounding concerned.]

Hey, kid. You all right?

[Probably a stupid question, but you know what, it's as good a place to start as any.]

Who are you?

_{[It's an immediate response from a kid who's now cautiously on guard - but at the same time relieved to hear a voice that doesn't sound like it wants to do her harm.]}

[Ah. Yeah, he should've expected that. Yusuke isn't exactly what you'd call the greatest at being comforting, but he's careful to at least keep his tone even and calm when he answers her. No need to get her more freaked out than she probably is already.]

Name's Yusuke. I got your call just now. Everything okay over there?

_{[She shakes her head, no matter how little he can see it, and takes a look around herself. No, it's not okay.]}

I don't know how to get out. Are you trapped here too?

[ Have a small Japanese girl staring into the camera, too excited for audio. That sure sounds like another girl her age! Oh gosh, this never happens! ]

Um, I don't know who Parkman-san is, but hi! My name's Mimi Tachikawa! Are you new here?

[... ohhh. Okay, now Yusuke understands what's happening here. He relaxes, relieved to know that she isn't in any immediate danger. He'd assumed the worst for a second there...]

Yeah. A lot of the people in this place are. It's not just us.

[That probably isn't very reassuring, all things considered, but... well. He tried.]

Lemme guess, you just woke up here?

_{[-- woah hello there, sudden video, that's. Absolutely unexpected, so it takes a second for Molly to answer since she just kind of stares for a minute.]

[Person, you are far too cheerful for what Molly thinks this is.]}

- um, yes ... I mean, I don't know where I am. Can you help me?

_{[No that actually is kind of reassuring, cause it sounds like he knows what's going on. And Molly latches onto that immediately, pressing the gear closer to her ear and wrapping her other arm around herself in some kind of effort to comfort herself.]}

_{[The undertone being, that person is not at all my mom.]}

[As are those questions, apparently. Molly's a little caught off guard but she doesn't exactly mind, even if she's not sure how to keep up.]}

[He wishes he had a better answer for her. Not least of which because it'd mean he'd have a clearer idea of what the hell's going on here. So it goes.]

That lady says she's everyone's mom, though. I think she's been brainwashed.

[That or she's just fuckin' nuts. That is also a possibility.]

_{[She's about to say that somebody has to be doing it, but Yusuke's assessment makes her turn around to look back at the quaint little house again with a sudden feeling of worry.]

[And a pinch of guilt, why not.]}

Is she okay?

[--oh hell, that was the wrong thing to say, wasn't it. Yusuke grimaces. Time for some damage control. He forces a laugh and tries to sound nonchalant.]

Oh yeah, she's fine! It's not like she's sick or anything. She's just delusional as hell, that's all. I wouldn't worry about her, if I were you.

[THERE. That'll make the kid feel better, right?]

_{[WELL ... A for effort ...!]}

What if someone did something to her?

_{[Yeah sorry Yusuke you have a worried kid on your hands now. But actually, after a small moment of consideration, in a quieter tone of voice,]}

Or maybe she's not real.

Who's Parkman? [Veronica, like many people here did not know who that was.] Hey, if you're worried for him, he's probably not here. You're far away from him.

_{[Have the voice of a very young boy! Can't be older than seven or eight.]}

It's great to meet you, Molly-chan! [ Smile smile. Hope you like your new honorific! ]

New Bark Town, um. [ Mimi scrunches up her face. ] I think it's somewhere... east of here? [ Helpful, Mimi. ]

Oh yeah! And this prefecture, or country or whatever it is, is called Johto! This isn't the same world as Earth, if that's where you're from! People here are from a lot of different worlds, so who knows!

Oh! And Pokémon are the creatures in this world! There are a lot of different kinds! This is Palko! [ Mimi tilts the camera down to reveal a cactus - a Maractus, to be precise - looking up at it. She smiles and waves upon hearing her name. ] Palko was there when I woke up in this world, so you probably have a Pokémon who was there too! Do you have one? [ She cranes her neck, as if this would let her see offscreen. ]

_{[Molly's not entirely sure how much she can count on being far away from that man, but that makes her relax anyway.]}

I'm okay.

_{[She's not quite okay.]}

I just have to get back home.

_{[But that's a little kid. How can a little kid help?]

[She can't really help answering with the kind of impatient condescending tone kids love going for with younger kids. It's universal, okay.]}

_{[WHAT'S AN HONORIFIC. There's so much going on with you! Like what even is that - is that a living cactus. ... that is a living cactus.]

[Molly stares for a long moment. Yeah, it should be obvious this is all new to her. So she's speaking slowly, trying to grasp it.]}

But someone is doing this. Someone has to be doing this.

Why would they give us things? ... I didn't see anything.

_{[She left the magical red and white ball in her backpack, naturally.]}

[Veronica could tell that she was not quite okay.]

You have to get back home? [Oh dear, this all seemed really weirdly familiar.] I'm sorry, but, that's not going to happen.

[Let her out? What a weird way to put it. It gets Envy's attention enough to respond, anyway.]

Too bad, kid, you're stuck here. I don't know who Mr. Parkman is, but he probably didn't have anything to do with it.

Someone must have done it.

_{[At this point, while she's still scared, she's also getting kind of frustrated. People are telling her lots of things but not who's doing it. Or how to get home.]}

So I can't be stuck here.

Oh yeah, someone must have. But we don't know who that is.

Our best guess right now is this big white giraffe-thing.

[Who may or may not be a god, Envy's not entirely sure.]

And before it showed up to be noble and graceful at us a few months ago, we didn't have any guesses at all. I've been here four years, and that was the first hint we got.

So feel free to go off giraffe-hunting, if you want. But I doubt you'll have much luck.
