2 ✶ video/action
[Video! Molly's sitting on a park bench in Cherrygrove, a Natu and a shiny Sentret fighting for space in her lap.]
I wanted to say thanks to everyone who helped me last time. I can't remember everyone's names, but thanks.
[There were a lot of you people. But she does appreciate it, which is why she's reaching out again.]
But ... okay, I have to ask a few things. I've heard people talk about badges, what are those?
And ... well, what are pokémon supposed to eat?
[Video tilts to show the pokémon she's concerned for, then back up to Molly's face.]
They've kind of been eating my food, but I don't know if that's good for them. But I haven't really found anything in those stores either, like bird food or ... dog food or anything like that. So if anyone could help me with that that'd be great.
[Action if anyone in Cherrygrove wants to bump into her!]

Y'just need to want to make 'em something good. ...There's nothing real special about it...
...I usually take recipes I like and change it up so that it's easier for them to eat. ...Poochy loves crunchy food that's a little sweet, so when I make her dinner I put in extra pecha berries and a little sugar. It's not enough to make it unhealthy, but the taste in enhanced. She can tell the difference.
So it's like baking. You change things around until you like it.
We used to make sugar cookies at home ... the recipe was all scratched out cause of all the notes.
Yep! 'Cept with baking it's a lot more precise. If you put too much baking powder or baking soda, you could mess up the whole thing. With cooking, if you put too much salt, you can still add things to the pot to save the dish. It's a lot more forgiving.
[That's a sweet story to remember - pun not intended.]
What kind of new things did you do with the cookies?
[She's not entirely sure where to even begin with that, so has been eating mostly things she can buy for now.]
We tried different kinds of sugar! Sometimes we mixed them, or we had in more or less.
[Nothing wrong with store-bought food, but a growing girl has gotta eat!]
Like brown sugar and white sugar? Did they taste good after you baked them? I bet you must have loved them! I tried to bake cookies once. They came out lookin' okay, but they tasted like baking powder!
Yeah, we did all kinds of stuff like that. It was pretty good. This one time we got it perfect, so we kept trying all the time after that to do the same thing, but we'd forgotten which notes we used.
Did you have a recipe? Maybe you didn't have enough sugar or vanilla in.
[It does feel upsetting to talk about his dad. He hasn't spoken about him in a long time. But that frosty feeling that hung over his initial words have melted away for something warmer.
Cookies were a great help like that.]
Maybe you could find that perfect recipe now! You already know what it should taste like, so that's already one step in the right direction~.
I did have a recipe! But I was really small and I didn't want anyone to help me, not even my brother. I thought it was asking for a tablespoon of baking powder when it was just for a teaspoon. ...I don't think I put any vanilla in it.
Yeah, maybe. And then I can write it down and save it someplace safe this time.
[Except if you go home and forget, well ...]
[But nevermind.]
Then you know what you did wrong! You could just try again.
... is your brother here too? [Asked with some careful sensitivity. She just hopes he isn't alone, like her.]
How about keepin' a journal? If you want, I could get one for you - as a welcome to Johto sorta gift, y'know?
[Shhhhhhhh. Live in the moment, little girl. He has to laugh at that.]
I could, but baking isn't my style. I like savory food you can sink your teeth into! Like chicken, pork, turkey, rice bowls~. Especially a hot pot dish!
Hm? [All this talk about food is making him hungry...]
Yeah, Yukio's here too. ...He wasn't at first. I was here on my own for a while. ...but I made good friends along the way that made it way easier to be here.
[Just. Not going to mention how some of those friends are gone now and new ones have entered his life. He's not going to forget any of those people.]
If you meet him, you'll know who he is right away! He looks a little like me, but he wears glasses and he's way more nerdy.
Really? Thanks!
[He really really doesn't have to, but she's still super appreciative. She's also fast assuming this guy is a cook of some kind. Like, almost a real one. And that's pretty cool. She drops that to make a face of recognition at the desrciption of his brother though.]
I think I talked to him! He seemed kind of shy.
Oh, I'm Molly. What's your name?
[It was the least he could do, considering the distance between them. Rin could see that she was small and alone. It wasn't ideal for a child her age to be out there on her own - not that he was one to talk but....
It just seemed lonesome.]
Yeah, that's him. He's pretty quiet but he's one of the smartest people I know! [He's always proud of his younger sibling, through thick and thin. He puffs out his chest a bit to better introduce himself. A name has to come with a kickass announcement!]
'nd I'm Rin Okumura. Nice to meetcha, Molly!
You should write a recipe in it before you send it so I can try it!
[Just don't make it too difficult and then she'll tell you All About It.]
[She gives a cheerful nod at the description of the brother, looking like she agrees - he absolutely did seem pretty smart.]
Hi, Rin!
Have you been here a long time? Most people have.
I'll totally do that! I'll make sure it's something fun and delicious~! [-- Oh wait, maybe he should include something that is fun and delicious for little girls.] You're not allergic to anything, are ya?
Uh, sorta? It's hard to explain. ...But I have been here way longer than Yukio!
[Things to not tell other people: I keep falling asleep here, wake back up at home, and come back here again. It's happened three times and it's starting to weird me out.]
[She says, super cheerfully, pretty excited to make a friend this way too.]
You didn't come here together?
[He's laughing it off now since there's no need to dredge up old emotions, right? Right.]
Nope. I was here on my own for a while before my brother showed up.
[video] 1/2
[video] 2/2
I'm glad he's here now. Family is pretty important.
Yeah. He's all I have left so that makes him really important! And in a place like this, pokemon can easily be like family. That's why you gotta feed 'em the best food you can!
[From some place off camera comes a loud squeak of agreement. A moment later a tiny dedenne hops onto Rin's shoulder and nuzzles against him.]
Aw!
[Cute.]
Do you have a lot of them? What's that one called?
Besides, cute pokemon were way more important.]
This is Mickey! Say hi, buddy~! [Mickey chirps a hello and starts chattering away. He's as animated as Rin - maybe moreso.]
I used to have about 12 of 'em but I had to send them off to live with the Circus People. I don't wanna just stick 'em all in a box. They need to be out there havin' fun with the rest of us!
[She laughs a little, and at the chatter, her Natu hops up on her shoulder to curiously chirp back at the Dedenne.]
-- this is Aria.
What Circus People? Like the ones in Goldenrod? Maybe I know one of them.
[Mickey and Rin both raise a
pawhand in greeting.]Yeah! The one and the same. Y'see, I can't carry more than six guys with me at a time - 'nd I don't wanna store 'em away either. So Joker, the dude who's in charge of that place, was able to hold on to them and keep them for me!
That sounds pretty nice, especially if they get to be out of their pokéballs. Do you know Jimmy?
[That. Was an odd question. . . . ]
Is he a friend of yours?
